English and Social Studies Teacher

Omar Ibn Al Khattab Academy is looking for English and Social Studies Teachers for Grades 6-11 for our upcoming 2026-2027 Academic Year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver Alberta curriculum-aligned English Language Arts and Social Studies programs for students in Grades 6–11.
- Creating engaging, inclusive, and student-centred learning experiences that promote critical thinking, literacy development, communication skills, and global citizenship.
- Utilizing differentiated instruction and assessment practices to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Monitoring student progress through formative and summative assessments and providing timely feedback to students and families.
- Supporting students with a range of learning needs through collaboration with Learner Support staff, Educational Assistants, and families.
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing Learner Support Plans (LSPs), IPPs, and accommodations as required.
- Maintaining accurate student records, assessment data, attendance, and reporting using school and division platforms, including PowerSchool.
- Collaborating with colleagues in professional learning communities to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
Education / Qualifications
- A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification in Alberta.
- A Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization or significant coursework in English Language Arts, Social Studies, or related fields.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction at the junior high and/or high school level.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta Education curriculum, assessment, and reporting requirements.
- Experience implementing differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
- Effective classroom management skills and the ability to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience teaching both English Language Arts and Social Studies in Grades 6–11.
- Knowledge of literacy intervention strategies and adolescent literacy development.
- Experience integrating technology to enhance student engagement and learning.
- Participation in professional learning communities and collaborative school improvement initiatives.
- Experience coaching, leading extracurricular activities, or sponsoring student clubs.
- Familiarity with International Baccalaureate (IB) programs or inquiry-based learning approaches is considered an asset.
Hours:
- Approx. 1.00 FTE – Mondays to Fridays, full time

Design, Computer Science, Physics, and STEM Lab Teacher

Omar Ibn Al Khattab Academy is looking for Design, Computer Science, Physics, and Stem Lab Teacher for Grades 6-11 for our upcoming 2026-2027 Academic Year.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Teaching Design courses for Grades 6–8, Computer Science for Grades 10–11, and Physics 11 in accordance with Alberta curriculum requirements.
- Leading and managing the school's STEM Lab, including planning, organizing, and facilitating hands-on STEM learning experiences for students across multiple grade levels.
- Maintaining STEM Lab equipment, materials, technology resources, and ensuring safe operating procedures are followed.
- Supporting teachers in integrating STEM, technology, engineering, coding, robotics, and design-thinking activities into their classroom programs.
- Plan and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that foster creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation.
- Teaching foundational and advanced concepts in design thinking, coding, robotics, computational thinking, programming, digital technologies, and physics.
- Integrating technology and project-based learning to enhance student engagement and real-world application of knowledge and skills.
- Monitoring student progress through formative and summative assessments and providing timely feedback to students and families.
- Maintaining accurate records, assessment data, attendance, and reporting using school and division platforms.
- Collaborating with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities and school improvement initiatives.
- Supporting STEM-related extracurricular activities, competitions, clubs, and student leadership opportunities.
- Contributing to school culture through extracurricular activities and school-wide initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for Alberta certification.
- A Bachelor of Education degree with coursework or specialization in Science, Physics, Computer Science, Technology Education, Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction at the junior high and/or high school level.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta curriculum, assessment, and reporting practices.
- Experience teaching technology-rich, inquiry-based, and project-based learning environments.
- Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills combined with tact, diplomacy and flexibility
- Experience supporting diverse learners and implementing differentiated instruction.
- Proficiency in educational technology, coding platforms, and digital learning tools.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience managing or operating a STEM Lab, Makerspace, Innovation Hub, or similar learning environment.
- Experience teaching Design, Computer Science, Coding, Robotics, Engineering, or Technology courses.
- Experience teaching high school Physics.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar platforms.
- Experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, 3D design, CAD software, makerspaces, and emerging technologies.
- Familiarity with International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, inquiry-based learning, or design thinking frameworks is considered an asset.
- Experience leading STEM initiatives, competitions, science fairs, robotics teams, or coding clubs.
